I've found that the pleasure of working with rhinestone can be quite addictive! You'll be seeing more of rhinestone lovelies in my designs in the near future. As for now, here's a gorgeous asymmetrical earrings - A Strange Bloom for your viewing pleasure.

These earrings are made of antique brass / copper with Swarovski crystals, rhinestone chains and lovely rose cabs. A simple design with minimal wire-wraps and is part of the Semi-Charmed collection.

Song of a Ghostbird

Ghostbird, literally translate to "burung hantu", which means owl in my native language. Yes, I got inspired by a petite songbird with a huge talent from my own homeland of Sarawak, Borneo Island. Zee Avi, a singer & songwriter who is signed to US-based label Brushfire Records has just released her second sophomore album in August 2011 titled 'Ghostbird'. I was simply in love with her smooth relaxing sound and effortlessly sweet honey vocals which sounds like summerbreeze, a perfect soundtrack for an end of summer weekend. She played the guitar & ukelele quit well too. All the soundtracks are amazing especially 'The Book of Morris Johnson', my favourite track. Overall, the album reveals a catchy, pleasant and happy tunes that evokes a 1920's lounge singer in Honolulu heydays. Kudos to her on a job well done!

This utterly stunning piece was inspired by Lancelot Speed (1860 – 1931) beautiful illustration below of “Lady of the Lake” from: The Legends of King Arthur and His Knights 9th edition of Ed. Sir James Knowles.

It is handcrafted from oxidized sterling silver and the gemstones that emblazon the frame comprised of dreamy Blue Chalcedony briolette and sparkling Swarovski crystals in Blue Zircon and Turquoise color. The result was absolutely magical.

Lady of the Lake Earrings measures approximately 2.25” from top of the sterling silver ear-wires with a 1.25” diameter.

A macaron (French pronunciation: [makaˈʁɔ̃]) is a sweet confectionery made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond and food coloring. These french pastries are more like a sandwich cookies filled with buttercream, ganache or jam filling.

Macarons are definitely on my culinary list this year. I simply adore these little french pastries even though I am completely clueless about how they taste like. I fell head over heels the minute I saw those colorful, mouthwatering macarons from the famous french pâtisserie Ladurée, the best of macarons. But because I can't just jet off to Paris to fetch some, I must at least try making them myself.

I heard that macarons are among the most difficult of pastries to make, but I thought I would be up for the challenge. There are a few recipes I am eager to try, so wish me luck! :)

Finally, after a long hectic week, I've managed to finish my long overdue cuff, made especially for my bridal collection, The Wedding Belles. Not much different from the original design. It was quite a challenging one I must say as I never work with a non-drilled stone before. But here we have it, the finished piece...standing proudly before you. :)

My craze for plumage continues on as you can see here. I just can't get enough of these fluffy fluttery beauties! I've created the baby ostrich feather part so that it can be easily separated from the main piece, thus the wearer can have 2 different option & style.

The ads uses juxtaposed of light & shadow, combine delicate piece with more edgy look. Decked in Marie Antoinette-style parlour, each models wearing a mish mash of hipster & retro chic in denim, tulle & jacquard.

New cuff on it's way

Hello dearies! I have been neglecting my blog recently...my bad. It's hard to juggled between day work, jewelry making and personal matters *sigh* . However, I'm back to create something new. I have found the joy of working with feathers. Right after the The Queen's Dollmaker cuff have been sold, I've decided to create another cuff which incorporate feathers.

The cuff is still in trial & error basis, but I promise to post some pictures when it is ready. I hope the outcome will be equally stunning as Marie Antoinette who gives me the inspiration to use feathers in my designs.

The Queen's Dollmaker Cuff

Be inspired by Marie Antoinette one’s said. So I did… I pondered through a collection of articles and pictures of her and found out about this engaging novel The Queen’s Dollmaker by Christine Trent. What fascinates me is the fact that Marie Antoinette actually in love with dolls! Furthermore, a lovely painting of her when she was a child together with family captures my attention and triggers my urge to create this cuff, reminiscent of her.

During the 18^th century, there were two reasons why dolls were created. First, they were playthings and mostly made of rags, corn husk or other materials. Second, they were some sort of fashion representation. Receiving a doll is like sitting in the front row of a fashion show! The replicas of the costumes will be put on these dolls, where the onlookers can actually see, feel and touch the fabric up close. But of course these fashion dolls were highly for the wealthy, and Marie Antoinette often had an entire set of dolls presented to her as to select her entire trousseau. Now, how fun was that?

In Trent’s novel, the craft of dollmaking is at the enchanting center. The entire processes are intriguing and demonstrate the whimsical side of eighteenth century. So was the process of creating my Queen’s Dollmaker Cuff Bracelet nonetheless.

The cuff was constructed, hammered and shaped from sterling silver wires using various techniques to produce different elaborate and intricate textures in the design. The warm pinkish hues in the paintings set the selection of gems & crystals such as:-

~ A gorgeous oval Rhodocrasite with beautiful lacey details.

~ Pretty in pink Topaz oval beads.

~ Lovely Citrine Rondelles.

~ Authentic Swarovski Glass Pearls and Swarovski crystals.

For the final touch that adds the dramatic look is the using of Sienna Ostrich Feathers, which I have wrapped into a pin for the purpose of attaching and re-attaching. Yes, yet another versatile piece where the ostrich feathers can be separated from the cuff or can be placed either on right or left side of the cuff, whichever fancy you.

This cuff can be adjusted into 2 sizes as it have 2 clasp and only suitable for wrist between 5.5” to 6.5”. The wideness of the front frame reaches approximately 2.5” and 1.75” at the back. All wires have been oxidized and polished.

I have always been inspired by Virginia Oldoini but haven’t had the perfect design for her until today. Finding a design for her was a challenge and I think that I have perfectly portrays her beauty in these magnificent pair of earrings.

Brace yourself for A Goddess of Self-Love Earrings. Every single part of this earring is hand-crafted, except for the long luscious Sienna ostrich feathers of course. What a gorgeous color don’t you agree? The main focal is finely constructed of 925 sterling silver wires and embellished with beautiful gemstones of:-

~ AAA Platinum Mystic Garnet Briolette
~ AA Amethyst Rondelles
~ Swarovski crystals with beautiful shades of Light Amethyst AB2X

Ultimately glam and exquisite, this earring falls approximately 7” from top of the ear-wires with a 1.25” wide.

Ohh…but wait, here’s a secret about this earring… it’s totally versatile. To get a much more wearable look, just simply un-hook the feathers part from the bottom. Is that easy…and fun! ;)

Today I was experimenting with bead caps. And the result was... Mademoiselle Victorine Earrings. These bead caps are rather tiny. Although they're quite small and dainty, they look amazingly alluring and very seductive on the ear lobes.

As the Halloween approaches, I had no clue of what to wear to my coming Halloween party. Perhaps I'll dress up as a witch? Well, not the spooky looking ones but a modish one.

I particularly love the last picture where model Audrey Marnay posed in an exquisite looking little black lacey dress with dramatic eyes, her hair parting in the middle, slightly wavy and a tiny witch hat as the hair accessory. How adorable is that?

Here am I modeling for my first headpiece. It was quite hard to get a good photo as I was struggling in between giving a good pose, taking the right angle, focusing on the headpiece and snapping the picture myself! Oh well, this is the best I can do. I'll pick on a model next time.

This headpiece is made of some reclaim materials and new ones. It contains brass chains & swarovski crystals, center part down the middle joining together by an exquisite wire wrapped centerpiece.

Today is the Mooncake Festival also known as The Mid-Autumn Festival which falls on the 15th day of the 8th Lunar month of the Chinese calender. It is believe that the moon tonight will be the roundest and brightest.

Traditionally at night, the Chinese will sit outside the garden, admiring the moon, accompanied with a slice of yummy mooncake, and a nice cup of Oolong tea.

Meanwhile the most happiest of all are the children who will be carrying colorful paper lantern outside and lit the whole front gate with colorful mini lanterns. Ah... I miss those nostalgic moments...

Magdalena Carmen Necklace

Magdalena Carmen Necklace, inspired by the beautiful & exotic Mexican surrealist painter... Frida Kahlo. Both wire wrapping & chainmaille technique were used to create this ultra glam & funky neckpiece.

It is made of antique copper jump rings to form a chainmaille that holds a unique brass plate and waterfalls of sparkly Swarovski crystals and glass beads. The sparks from these Swarovski crystals are amazing as I use a combination of AB2x Turquoise, AB2x Blue Zircon and Erinite.

This necklace measures approximately 17.5" long and you can wear it as a choker or any length that you desire as it has an adjustable 3" chain attached to the end. The Swarovski danglers drops about 4" from the bottom of brass plate.

She may have had a unibrow, smoke heavily and worn baggy & utilitarian pants, but still she is to me gorgeous, unique and possesses an exotic charm.

The life and times of Frida Kahlo (born on July 6, 1907), the famous Mexican surrealist painter is a complicated story of love, tragedy, and unwavering beauty. She was considered the public enchantress – striking, ageless and self-assured.

Her fashion sense is just as interesting as her biography and paintings. She was often seen with her hair parted down in the middle, or intricately knotted and adorned with dyed fabrics and flowers. She loves to wear elaborate and heavy earrings as well as embellished her fingers with rings. (Ahh…sounds like my kinda girl) In fact, she was known to spend hours in getting into her costume in the morning, donning her favorite Mexican rebozo, gowns, headpiece and jewelry.

After a serious bus accident, she turned her attention to a full time painting career while recovering, and that became her lifelong passion. She was married to Diego Rivera, also a Mexican painter in 1929 and died on July 13, 1954 because of pulmonary embolism.

The Girl Who Escaped From Life In Her Art

Not many knew who this girl really was... Many were really captivated by her artwork but were unable to name the artist. Virginia Frances Sterrett illustrated three books: The Arabian Nights, Tanglewood Tales and Old French Fairy Tales. Her work is enjoying a renaissance of interest, and is becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Virginia Frances Sterrett was born in Chicago in 1900. During her teenage years, She encountered many hardship but at last, at the age of 19, she was commissioned by Penn Publishing Company to illustrate Old French Fairy Tales by Comtesse de Segur (children storybook). It was her opportunity to fulfill her lifelong dream. Equipped with just pen and ink drawings and watercolors, she completed the pictures and received $500 for her work. After that she received a few more commissions from the same company, I guess they really love her!

But it was really her works of The Arabian Nights (1928 Publishing) that gave her recognition from discriminating art critics who praised her to had an imaginative conception, grace and delicacy of execution all its own. The collection consist of 16 illustrations in color, 20 in black and white, a colored picture for the front cover and a drawing for the inside cover.

Virginia died in 1931, at the age of 30, of tuberculosis. She left an incomplete set of illustration to Myths and Legends, her final commission from Penn Publishing Company.

Morgiana Danced With Much Grace

In the past I have done a piece under Morgiana’s name and thought of using her name again to portray this exquisite piece of earrings. Although her character inspires me much, it was actually Virginia Frances Sterrett’s enchanting illustration (above) that really aspire me to create this next piece I called Morgiana Danced with Much Grace.

The details that are showing from this lovely pair of earrings are to me beyond exquisite! Although the process of creating them were very time consuming with a few several modifications, I have to say that I absolutely love the outcome and its final look.

Morgiana Danced With Much Grace consist of an elegant flowery frame, fabricated from oxidized sterling silver 925 and embellished with filigree and braided details, my signature look.

The lovely gemstones I used for this piece are:-

Tales Of The Jeweled Ring 3

Here is my version of the knuckle/armour ring. Please forgive my hideous wire-wrapped for this ring, it is just a prototype that I've been making using recycled brass wires and Swarovski crystals. I just love how they turned out to be although some adjustments are needed.

As soon as it was done, I thought that the ring might felt uncomfortable on my finger, and run some test on them. I wear them the whole night on a girls night out and to my surprise they were comfy! ;) In fact, I've already received a commissioned for this ring from my best friend despite the hideous wire wrapped.

I'll post it on my next blog post but for now have a beautiful day ahead my friends... >_~

Tales Of The Jeweled Ring 2

My quest for that one special ring continues...

I found a lot of cool and edgy jewelry online especially rings, and these were my favorites. The first one was this amazingly cool design by Bijules, a New York based designer. This respected jewelry and accessory line is sought after by those who have a passion for individuality and fashion. The golden serpent nail rings are part of the "Serpensive" collection. I love it! But I doubt if I could make something like this or even stay on the finger lastingly...

Next is this beautiful talon knuckle ring that I loved so much from made her think by Meredith Kahn. I just love, love, love the horizontal effect of this ring on the finger.

Alexander McQueen Knuckle Duster Ring is a statement making! I love this too! Definitely will be in my list of making.

Here, we have something totally cool from Vivienne Westwood Armor Ring. Super fantastic! And I guess that these would be more comfortable to wear as they have hinges that would allow movements from the fingers.

But above all, by far my most favorite, the prettiest among the pretty rings, is this fabulous and uber fashionable Loree Rodkin diamond knuckle / finger armor ring that every Fashionistas are talking about. I was tremendously in love with this kind of ring and it is exactly the type of ring that I'm looking for!

I found quite a few version of this ring from other designers and online stores, the choice is yours to steal or splurge.

Honestly, I didn't found any wire-wrapped armour / knuckle ring tough... there was none, not even on Etsy. And so, I was aspired to make one, perhaps the first...

Tales Of The Jeweled Ring

It all began in my quest for the ultimate ring...

Not your everyday type of ring but a special ring that would stand out among others with an edgier look. And so, straight away the empress of China, Empress Dowager Ci Xi came into my mind...

She's the powerfull and charasmatic figure who became the ruler of Manchu (Qing Dynasty) in China for 47 years from 1861 to her death in 1908. But of course I'm not going to talk about her ruling era, I am more interested in her bejeweled adornments. In this case, her nail protector (guard) which she uses to protect her extra long nails.

In ancient China, long nails represents noble and wealth. Only ladies of the noble and wealthy families are able to grow long nails because they didn't need to do housework. Nail protectors were worn by the Qing Empress Dowager Ci Xi and normally these were made of gold and gems.

The above figure is the lovely Chen Fei the Pearl Concubine, who was a friend, lover and the Imperial Consort of Emperor Kwang Hsu. Although she was favored by the Emperor, her story was a real sad one as she met a very sad end in 1900. As depicted here, she is also wearing some nails protector too.

I was thinking that these nail protectors were quite cool and look very sexy if wear on the pinky finger! Alas, I finally made one but I loathe it very much! It was not comfortable and my pinky little finger felt very stiff and my movements were constraint by it! Sorry for not posting any pictures of it though...

I found this Harper's Bazaar Arabia editorial (May 2010) rather cool with big bold chunky accessories and airy ensembles. It does remind me of Sex and the City 2 where Carries actually crimped her hair on their trip to Morroco.
